Introduction

A large body of recent research on criminal interviews has focused on credibility assessment and deception detection. There are many traditional beliefs and myths regarding cues to deception. Consequently, many of these myths and beliefs have been commercialized into neat training packages. However, much of the material based on these myths is not endorsed by experienced interviewers or supported by research.

Led by Brent Scurry and Chris O' Connor, internationally acclaimed Investigation, Interviewing and Training Specialist, who both have over 25 years of experience in the industry, and vast experience in criminal and witnesses interviewing techniques, you will learn the ways to overcome deficient interviews caused by undertrained/unconfident interviewers or poorly/unplanned interviews. You will also know how to mitigate the risks of deficient interviews which often result in witnesses not relating their whole experience and the guilty not being held fully accountable for their actions. Through effective communication, you could avoid the unintended ‘knock-on’ effect which could result in subsequent complaints and litigation.

At the end of the 2-day program, you will gain a better understanding on the use of effective communication, skills and science to maximize the quality and quantity of information gathered. This 2-day workshop will refresh, reinforce and build on the interviewing skills of participants by introducing new techniques and processes that are supported by research as well as being practical and easily understood. Rolling scenarios consisting of multiple group exercises will be included to reinforce individual learning.
