Dr Alexander (Sandy) William Walker has been an industrial & product design engineering and innovation technologies specialist for more than 40 years where he offers his experience in the many industries in design engineering, biomechanics, technology, life-cycle thinking, materials & manufacturing, spatial augmented reality and prototyping to several clients since 2001. As a graduate from a BSc degree in Industrial Design (Technology) program (the first engineering, marketing and product design hybrid course in Britain), and having worked in the R&D departments of advanced technology companies for much of his professional design career, he believes that an environment which encourages the application of scientific knowledge and the provision of learning activities within an applied professional setting, are critical components of a product design education.

Dr Sandy has strong passion for innovation, the construction of value through the successful exploitation of creativity. A good idea is only a good idea, if without the support of product research, creative design, development, and investment and commercialization strategies. During the course of his career, he has worked in product development, business development and senior management capacities the UK, Australia, USA, South Korea and China.

As an Industrial Designer and Business Development Manager, he has identified and developed numerous product and business model opportunities, spanning the communications, electronic appliances, computer, medical, plastics, sustainability, education and food & beverage industries. In 2000, he has started a company called “Design, Develop Commercialize Pty Ltd” which developed the sports flooring product “Orbcourt”, which went on to successfully won a competitive AusIndustry R&D Start Grant. The product’s commercialization strategy has now led to the system being launched into the US market.

You will understand how to discover and interpret customer pain, learn how to use consumer research to guide your team through each step of product creation. From design led innovation to learning frameworks and principles that every successful product designers use, this program is essential for anyone who develop the next generation breakthrough product.

Led by Dr. Alexander (Sandy) William Walker, Award Winning Design Consultant, Dr Sandy will expound on the latest development guidelines and controversial challenges on product design by leveraging latest technology and analysis in the market environment. He will also walk you through the commercial strategies and the decision making involved, including pricing, ideation generation, prototyping and how to deliver/manufacture with current state of manufacturing technology.
