Introduction

The Blockchain technology has already expanded its attention to the healthcare industry. According to a study by BIS Research, 40 percent of health executives highlight Blockchain technology as one of their top 5 priorities in expanding their hospital operations. The global healthcare market spending on Blockchain technology is expected to hit up to US$ 5.61 billion by 2025 as the Blockchain adoption could save the healthcare industry up to US$100-US$150 billion per year in data breach-related costs, IT costs, operations costs, support function costs and personnel costs as well as significantly reduce frauds and counterfeit medical products. The future of Blockchain adoption is so immense that one of the top five hospitals in the US, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is already test-running their Blockchain technology adoption in collaboration with Korean Blockchain startup MediBloc to come up with a solution for better ways to store and save patients’ data. It is likely that many more hospitals will follow MGH’s footstep to stay ahead of technology and strive for optimal operational excellence.
