Jeff is an international speaker, trainer and business consultant, specializing in Leadership, Finance, and Commercial Management. In a business career of over thirty years, he has taken up senior level positions in a range of large multinational organizations and gained a reputation for delivering signifi cant improvements in organizational and team performance. He was also the past Chair of the Scottish Board of the Chartered Management Institute and sits on local Board of Directors of several charitable bodies.

Program Summary

Moving from Technical Professional to Manager and Leader is a 2-day comprehensive program that will show you a single coherent roadmap to become a strong project leader and manager as you transition beyond your current scope. Led by Jeff Lockhart, Fellow of UK Chartered Institute of Management (FCMI), you will be guided on how to master the ability to smoothly transition yourself to manager and leader by understanding people management skills, emotional intelligence and effective communication to successfully navigate the transition and to deliver both organizational & personal objectives. It is an essential program for Technical Professionals who wants to build emotional intelligence and capability to deal with the significant changes in priorities, relationships, and tasks while moving into leadership role.

Introduction

Transitioning from technical professional to manager and leader can be challenging due to a great shift from individual contributor to managing a professional workforce. Managers and leaders are often pushed to make a shift on how they direct their energy, skill and time while paying attention to the success of others, making themselves available and accessible to staff , listen to their needs, give them feedback on their performance, coach, motivate and develop them to become successful. Despite the hype, transition can be done smoothly if certain skill sets are utilized to groom and broaden the perspective in understanding the management role.

 

This comprehensive 2-day program is designed for technical professionals to develop fundamental skill sets required for transitioning to manager and leader and at the same time, to build your emotional intelligence & capability to deal with the significant changes in priorities, relationships, and tasks while moving into leadership role.

 

The session will show you how to build, manage, and lead a professional team under your supervision while working together efficiently and effectively by using the right leadership style. Coupled with understanding of team motivation, you will discover variety of skills that can be used to motivate and run a team of professionals, helping them to reach their full potential. In addition, you will learn strong communication skills for effective management by identifying various communication aspects to clearly deliver your messages and create dynamic 2-way interaction with your team. You will also acquire knowledge on how to recognize and develop talent in your team as well as effectively handle conflict in a workforce to mobilize talent, promote teamwork, navigate conflict and establish yourself as a solid leader.

Session 5: Team Dynamics

Session 6: Managing people and change

  • Theories of change: why we find change difficult
