10:10am Test & Measurement Aspects of Future 5G Base Stations and UE Architectures

On the way to 5G some trends are getting clear, the need for larger bandwidth, a new base station architecture divided into centralised and distributed unit and the implementation of massive MIMO methods. These trends are going together with using additional frequencies, especially in the higher frequency ranges, like the mm-waves.

In this presentation we would like to outline some impacts on the future base station and UE architectures with regard to new antenna systems inside, power consumption aspects and power amplifier design. Focus will be on some challenges of future test and measurement aspects like e.g. over the air testing aspects in R&D and production environment, power consumption analysis and component verification like power amplifiers linearization.

2:40pm Critical Infrastructure for the Internet of Things (IoT)

  • IoT has broadened the definition of and need for critical infrastructure – keeping power on to all devices. While critical infrastructure encompasses the protection and enabling of mission-critical applications in the major data centres, with the anticipated explosion in IoT, the playing field has become vast because of the endpoints that interact directly – the end users and consumers are becoming demanding due to requirement of the functions and applications
  • IoT introduce a new IT topology, where the distributed network will re-emerge as crucial to store data collected from IoT devices at the edge of network and require the localisation of real-time processing, while the central or core data centre (whether on-premise, co-location or hybrid cloud) will need to be remotely monitored and maintain the central management of the entire network

2:30pm Drones, IoT and 5G – The Drone Invasion is Here
josh-keegan-112x128 Josh Keegan
Director & CEO
World Drone Challenge
World Drone Challenge

Josh has avidly followed the developments within the drone industry since the first military drones were introduced. This passion led him in 2015, to present at both the Asia Pacific Cities Summit, in Brisbane and the Audacious Ideas Festival in Toowoomba on “How to survive the upcoming drone invasion.”

It was after the second presentation that both Josh and David Masefield (co-founder) found they shared a mutual passion for drones and identified gaps in the industry. From this conversation, they have since founded the World Drone Challenge. The underlying theme of the event is for teams to deliver some form of humanitarian relief to what would be isolated remote or regional communities in a post-natural disaster scenario, taken directly from Josh’s experiences during the 2011 Floods impacting Toowoomba, Brisbane, and the greater Lockyer Valley.

Since creating the World Drone Challenge, Josh has been invited to present webinars to wide range of audiences (and mediums) including the beef and cattle industry, maths and science students at Flinders University and has recently been invited to present to the Australian Intelligent Transport Systems Summit. He has also written and contributed to a number of articles and has been interviewed on a number of occasions regarding his insights into the impact of drones on multiple industries.

Brightstar Corp (Softbank Group)
Ben Wark has been involved in leading technology Sales and Marketing for the past 20years. From his beginnings in telecommunications where he had an extensive engagement in a large-scale data centre as a service and the early virtulisation. Ben then moved to Asia where he worked extensively across South East Asia and India. Throughout his 10years in Asia Ben worked in senior management roles with McAfee, Intel Security, and enterprise mobility startup Ivy Mobility and most recently Brightstar (a Softbank company).

Recently Ben has been working on APAC focussing on Digital and IoT service solutions that have seen extensive engagements with Softbank, Airtel, Telstra, Maxis, 2 degrees, JB HiFi and IoT startup ConnectedLife.

The need for robust and clever (smart is overused) digital journeys is imperative but the physical movement of devices and the always now generation create huge opportunities for companies to leverage the services of specialists.

5G and IoT Innovation Post-Show Workshops – 15 November 2017, Wednesday

Workshop Timetable: Workshop A will run from 9.00am – 12.00pm with mid-morning and luncheon breaks.
Workshop B will run from 1:30pm – 4:30pm with a mid-afternoon refreshment break.
Registration begins 30 minutes before each workshop commences.
TIME AGENDA
9:00am – 12:00pm

Post-Forum Workshop A: Low-Power Wide-Area (LPWA) Li-Fi Indoor Network as an innovative and Transformative Technology for 5G

Li-Fi (Light-Fidelity), sometimes referred as Visible Light Communications (VLC), is a new technology for high-speed wireless communications through light emitting diodes (LEDs). LiFi is a promising candidate for wireless sensor communications in the NB-IoT ecosystem as well as the Cloud-RAN cellular network topologies. LiFi transceiver operates similarly under LoS or nLoS conditions, contributing to alternative Het-Net & small cells wireless networks integrations. Hence referring to cellular Li-Fi network or fempto to atto cell concepts for very high area spectral efficiencies, cellular operators would benefit from both capacity and Het-Net C-RAN design. LiFi is among well proposed innovative 5G technologies, still under research, for low power and low-cost indoor building deployment for smart cities/buildings, solving the looming spectrum crisis in wireless communications as well as contributing to green networks.

In this workshop, cellular operator engineers, managers as well as providers/entrepreneurs  would benefit from:

  • Short Overview of LiFi general technology,
  • Referring to LiFi standards and LPWAN/ITU/5G PPP technical specifications
  • Presenting LiFi based sensors and the NB-IoT merged ecosystem
  • Integrating potential Cellular LPWAN LiFi fempto/atto topology on C-RAN and Het-Net networks
  • Explaining how to plan for LiFi NB-IoT indoor coverage and outline the Accessibility optimization

2:00pm – 5:00pm

Post-Forum Workshop B: The Next Decade in LTE Technology

This interactive workshop is designed to stimulate the exploration of the journey from 4G & LTE to 5G with key milestones and challenges in implementing IoT used cases. We will target to instigate the curiosity around collaboration between different stakeholders and industry representatives to achieve “End User” performance. The workshop will also examine how to integrate various technologies across several platforms and industries to serve the purpose of keeping “everything & everyone connected”.

Key takeaway:

  • Overview of some technology details regarding LTE evolution, IoT and the road to 5G
  • Overview of the major technologies involved in developing the IoT environment, over and against a cellular infrastructure with non-cellular background
  • Understand the major requirements, standardization updates and major technological breakthroughs in 5G
  • Integrate the convergence of IT and mobile with a “Network of One” concept for an end user service seamless across technologies and infrastructure domains.
