The Asia-Pacific region accounted for the bulk of deaths from natural disasters in the last century, continuing to be the world’s most disaster-prone region in 2016.

To build a resilient Asia-Pacific requires a paradigm shift from a response-recovery governance to a risk-sensitive development approach, and a stronger regional co-operation for managing trans-boundary disasters.
