The Emerging World of Construction, Introducing Modular Construction and Pre-Fabrication

Pre-fabricated buildings is not a new concept, having existed since the early 1900s in the United States. However, it only started to gain prominence until the idea of kit homes was introduced. Such technologies allows for assembly-line production and can be mass-produced at much lower costs and at a faster pace.

Through these morning sessions, you will gain what modular construction and pre-fabrication are, the current and future trends of such building technologies in New Zealand and explore how to incorporate these building techniques into your architectural designs and supply chain process.

Overcoming Challenges and Making Modular Construction and Pre-Fabrication a Reality

Modular construction and pre-fabrication undeniably bring numerous advantages to the construction industry and its stakeholders. In spite of this, companies often encounter challenges when embarking on modularization and pre-fabrication projects due to its unconventional nature. With doubts from stakeholders on mass-manufactured building materials, transportation and logistical issues as well as building standards compliance to local legislation for pre-fabricated buildings, many companies are still resistant against making the bold leap and take on these building methods.

Recognize the long-term benefits of modular construction and discover how your organization can manage and overcome negative perceptions through thought-provoking sessions shared by leading experts in the modular world.

.
13:45 – 14:30 The Contribution of Modular Construction and Its Effects Towards New Zealand
  • The benefits of modular or off site construction, time saving, much reduced overall cost, less waste, less OSH issues
  • The difficulties in getting modular accepted in NZ, whereas it is now common in many countries including US, China, Germany, Australia etc.
  • The further opportunities of modular to help get more houses and building built due to it being cost effective and the effect of reducing the housing crisis in NZ
  • An answer to the tourism sectors concerns over not enough accommodation for the anticipated growth
sean-112x128 Speaker: Sean Murrie,  Managing Director, Matrix Homes Ltd

Sean Murrie is the current CEO and a shareholder in Matrix Homes. He co-founded the company to address the housing shortage, and price rises that has seen less Kiwis own their own home than ever before. This was partly altruistic, and partly to be breaking new ground in how construction is undertaken in NZ.
